Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is home to over 1 million people!
To the east, the prairies stretch out, and to the west are the rolling Foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

The petroleum industry plays a big part in the economic picture of Calgary,
but there are myriad diverse businesses and activities.

The Calgary Stampede and Exhibition dominates the City in July for
ten fun-filled days of rodeo, chuckwagon races, midway
and world-class entertainment.

Of course, in the winter there's hockey to keep us occupied.
Whether it's watching three-years olds learning how to skate and handle a stick at the same time,
or watching a live or Televised game, Hockey is definitely popular in Calgary.
We host an NHL team, the Calgary Flames,
with a very faithful following of fans
as every home game boasts a Sea of Red in the stands.
And if they actually make it into the Stanley Cup playoffs,
the Fans party along the mile-long streets of downtown!!

Here is a short quick pictoral tour of our hometown.

The New Town of Calgary about 1885.

This picture of Calgary in 1969 shows
the NEW 660 ft high Husky Tower (now Calgary Tower),
the city's Centennial Project for Canada's 100th birthday in 1967.

A slightly different Skyline greets visitors to Calgary now!
The Calgary Tower is tucked in the buildings
on the left (south) side of this view of Downtown.

Looking to the Rockies in the Southwest from Northwest Calgary near my home.

Standing on the clear floor nearly 600ft above the street is harder than you'd think!
Even the 2-year old didn't like it!
But her big borther had fun hamming it up!

An interesting sculpture of a horse on a downtown Caglary Mall.

The Wonderful Glorious Marvelous Chinook arch,
which heralds a strong dry westerly wind
that can raise winter temperatures from -40F to +40F in a hour.

In parting, here's a great shot of one of my favorite sites in Calgary,
The Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis.
